Dengue situation under control in Islamabad, says health chief

Islamabad's health chief, Dr Irshad Ali Jokhio, has declared that the city's dengue situation is now under control, with only two confirmed cases reported so far. The Director General of Health Services explained that the teams conducting door-to-door awareness campaigns have been effective in preventing the spread of the disease. These teams have removed 4,000 larvae from Islamabad in just 15 days, thanks to the cooperation of the city's citizens.

The health officials emphasized that there have been no cases of FIRs (First Information Reports) being registered against homeowners who were found to have larvae in their premises. Instead, they have been informed about the issue and guided on how to prevent further growth. The teams have visited homes three times, destroying larvae on the first visit and requesting citizens to avoid water stagnation in the future.

They will continue to monitor the situation and serve notices only if homeowners do not take action after the third visit.

Dr. Jokhio assured the public that the dengue campaign is a cooperative effort between the health department and local authorities, including the Chief Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, who are directly overseeing the efforts. He reiterated that action against citizens is only taken in cases of repeated violations, and the public response has been very positive, contributing significantly to the removal of larvae in such a short time.
