Current gov’t has done less for comedians than NPP – Lekzy DeComic

Ghanaian comedian Lekzy DeComic has expressed dissatisfaction with the current government's support for comedians and the creative industry. He claimed that the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration was more attentive to the needs of comedians and supported comedy shows and initiatives. Lekzy brought this to the attention of a previous NPP executive, who then informed the GTA boss Akwasi Agyemang.

Consequently, whenever a comedy show was held, arrangements were made to provide support, either in kind or otherwise. However, the current government seems to have overlooked the creative industry. Lekzy noted that he had invited South African comedians to Ghana last year to help with his show and even reached out to their acting ambassador, who was willing to assist.

Yet, he received no support and was instead asked for video footage from the event for a proposal. Lekzy expressed disappointment with the current government, stating that their action of appointing many creatives to leadership positions was the biggest letdown. This was part of the ninth Showbiz Roundtable, which discussed the government's impact on tourism, culture, and creative arts over the past 20 months.
