Arrow Star Stephen Amell Made His Acting Debut On This Acclaimed LGBTQ+ Drama

Before helming Arrow, Stephen Amell's career began with the acclaimed LGBTQ+ drama Queer as Folk. The Canadian-American show was a remake of the 1999 British series and Amell joined Showtime's version in Season 4 as the spin instructor. He appeared in Episodes 12 and 13, giving his career the boost it needed. Amell had initially sought the role because he needed a job, stating, "If I don't get this job, I quit," as he had been acting for four months with no success.

The remake ran for four seasons and 83 episodes, but Peacock's modern remake was canceled after the first season. Amell also appeared in the 2005 Here TV series Dante's Cove, playing frat boy Adam in the first season. However, his role was recast for Season 2 due to a disagreement with the director, with Jon Fleming taking over.
