Archer strikes deal with Boeing in latest bid to transform aviation through AI

Dubai-based flying taxi manufacturer Archer Aviation has acquired three Boeing subsidiaries in a deal valued at over $200 million annually. The acquisition includes Boeing's Wisk Aero, Insitu, and SkyGrid businesses. In exchange, Boeing will hold nearly 20% stake in Archer. The transaction, subject to certain conditions, including US antitrust law waiting periods, is expected to finalize by the end of 2026.

This deal will give Archer access to autonomous aircraft, unmanned systems, airspace management, and AI technologies, while Boeing will retain control over key autonomous flight technology and become a stakeholder in Archer. The combined businesses have nearly two million flight hours, and the transaction marks the sale of Boeing's long-term investments.

For Archer, this marks a significant step forward in creating an end-to-end platform encompassing aerospace, defense, and air traffic management. The business will expand Archer's reach beyond air taxis, as Insitu's unmanned aircraft systems are utilized by armed forces worldwide, while Wisk develops autonomous electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

SkyGrid specializes in ground-based air traffic management technology to support automated aviation and future integration into shared airspace.
