Apple's All-Glass 20th Anniversary iPhone Reportedly Canceled

Apple's rumored all-glass iPhone, designed to celebrate the device's 20th anniversary, has reportedly been canceled according to Jefferies analyst Edison Lee. The cancellation results from poor production yield, with Lee stating that the manufacturing rate of defect-free units is insufficient for the project. This downgrade to an "Underperform" rating from "Hold" by Jefferies, along with a reduced price target to $263.66, has led to a 2.1% drop in Apple's stock value.

The all-glass iPhone was initially envisioned as a significant redesign akin to the iPhone X, with a curved glass panel and under-display Face ID. It was expected to launch in September 2027, accompanied by a second-generation foldable iPhone. The cancellation raises concerns for Apple's strategy of raising iPhone prices as memory costs rise, as the device was estimated to have a $2,060 retail price tag.

Lee also believed that the cancellation would impact plans for other all-glass iPhone models, including the Pro and Pro Max lines. While the cancellation may signify the end of the all-glass design component, other elements of the design, such as the quad-curved chassis, could still proceed.
