AP Decision Notes: What to expect in Alabama’s special congressional primaries

Alabama voters will choose U.S. House candidates in four congressional districts on Tuesday, following a special primary election. The new map eliminates one of the state's two majority-Black districts currently represented by Democrats. The primaries, originally scheduled for May 19, were postponed following a Supreme Court decision that prompted Republican-controlled Southern states to redraw their congressional maps.

Both Democratic members of Congress from Alabama are seeking reelection in their newly configured districts and have no opposition in the primaries. Six Republicans are challenging incumbent Rep. Shomari Figures in the 2nd District, while two Republicans are competing for the nomination to unseat Rep. Terri Sewell in the 7th District.
