Anwar sues Tuan Ibrahim for defamation over ceramah remarks

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has initiated a defamation lawsuit against PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man. This legal action comes nearly two weeks after Tuan Ibrahim made remarks at a PAS ceramah in June, which Anwar claims were false and defamatory. The suit was filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court today, according to Anwar's lawyer, SN Nair.

The allegations originate from statements made by Tuan Ibrahim during a PAS ceramah in Felda Jenderak Utara, Kuala Krau, Pahang, on June 14. Anwar contends that these remarks were untrue and defamatory, specifically alleging that those who criticized ministers might face police investigations. Tuan Ibrahim also reportedly mentioned "misappropriation, corruption, and abuse of power," which Anwar's lawyers assert could be perceived as referring to the Prime Minister and his administration.

The contentious remarks have since been disseminated through video recordings and social media platforms, including Facebook and YouTube, as well as Tuan Ibrahim's own Facebook account. Anwar is seeking various forms of relief, including general, aggravated, and exemplary damages, an injunction to prevent further publication and dissemination of the defamatory statements, as well as an order for their removal from Tuan Ibrahim's social media accounts and other publications under his control.

Additionally, Anwar is requesting interest, costs, and any other relief deemed appropriate by the court.
