A warning BJP can no longer afford to ignore? NDA ally sounds wake-up call

In an exclusive interview, Sikkim MP Dr Indra Hang Subba sounded a wake-up call for the ruling NDA government, urging it to take heed of the recent student protests. Subba described his intervention in Parliament as an "honest speech," emphasizing that his remarks were not an act of dissent against the NDA administration.

"My speech wasn't a dissent speech. It was an honest speech," Subba stated, arguing that the students' concerns over examination leaks were valid and required attention. He questioned how a "wake-up call" could be considered dissent, asserting that the protests should serve as a warning to governments across the political spectrum.

Subba urged the political establishment to recognize "the nerve of the students," highlighting the urgency of the situation. He acknowledged the education minister's resignation, crediting him for cancelling the examination and organizing a re-examination within a month. Subba described the minister's decision to re-examine the exams as a significant choice.

When asked about prioritizing young people over maintaining the NDA alliance, Subba rejected the notion, emphasizing that the country's well-being should be the primary concern. He argued that supporting youth development and remaining part of the NDA were not mutually exclusive.

The MP's remarks have sparked a broader political question about whether the countdown for the BJP has begun and if growing student concerns pose an electoral warning. Additionally, Subba addressed Sikkim's connectivity crisis, pointing to the poor condition of NH10 and the non-functioning airport. He highlighted that Sikkim is effectively "cut off," further emphasizing the need for political action to address local governance issues.
