33 abducted Zamfara passengers regain freedom

In a successful rescue operation, 33 passengers abducted by terrorists in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State have been freed. The Joint Task Force North-West carried out the rescue following intelligence received on Saturday regarding the abduction of commuters on the Magazu area of Tsafe. This comes after a similar rescue operation in July by the state police command, where at least 11 travellers were saved from a bandit attack on the Gummi–Sokoto Road.

The victims in the latest incident were reportedly ambushed while traveling in a trailer carrying vegetables and people, with the gunmen opening fire, causing the driver to lose control and the vehicle to veer off the road. Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer of JTF North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, stated that the troops acted quickly upon receiving the information on Saturday.

The army and police swiftly mobilized to the location, engaged the terrorists, and forced them to abandon the victims, who were subsequently rescued. No casualties were reported during the operation, and the Theatre Command reiterated its commitment to protecting citizens, denying terrorists freedom, and safeguarding major transportation routes in the North-West.
