3.4% rise in Live Register claimants in July - CSO

According to the Central Statistics Office (CSO), there was a 3.4% increase in Live Register claimants in July, reaching 191,880 people. This figure represents a rise of 6,253 from July 2025. On a seasonally-adjusted basis, the Live Register figure was 174,500 last month, up 1,200 from June. Men comprised just over 52% of the claimants, with 73.4% being Irish.

Around 10.7% of claimants were from other EU countries, while approximately 3% were from the United Kingdom. Out of the total claimants, 13.3% were nationals of other countries. The majority of July claimants – 137,103 (71.5%) – had been on the register for less than a year. People aged 25 to 34 formed the largest group, accounting for nearly a quarter of all claimants.

Wexford experienced the biggest year-on-year increase, with a 7.2% rise compared to July 2025. Longford saw a 6.2% increase, while Monaghan and Clare saw declines of 4.1% and 4%, respectively. The CSO also reported on the number of people benefiting from the EU's Temporary Protection Directive, which largely relates to Ukrainians.

In July, there were 11,488 such claimants in Ireland, a decrease of 2.2% from the previous month and 6.4% lower year-on-year.
