2027: Kwankwaso Islamic cleric’s comments, says Kano rejects divisive remarks

Former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has strongly condemned remarks attributed to Islamic cleric Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir as divisive and detrimental to the nation's unity. Kwankwaso expressed deep concern over the statements made by Jingir during an event in Kano over the weekend.

He emphasized that religious leaders, especially those with significant influence, should promote peace, unity, and reconciliation rather than deepen divisions. Kwankwaso referred to Jingir, describing him as a leader of considerable stature and influence, stating that it was particularly troubling to hear such rhetoric from such a figure.

He further clarified that the people of Kano did not support the divisive remarks, stressing that political and religious leaders must prioritize national cohesion. Kwankwaso also warned that the 2027 general elections would present Nigerians with a choice: reward good governance or reject poor performance in the polls, implying that the current administration has already earned a rejection.
