Security forces rescue 16 kidnap victims in Kogi

Security forces in Kogi State have successfully rescued 16 kidnapped individuals, including four children, during a recent operation against suspected bandits. The victims were abducted on August 9 following an attack on commuters along the Ojuwo-Ajengo-Memarebo and Ojiwo-Itobe roads in Ofu Local Government Area. Intelligence sources informed security analysts that the victims were discovered around the Adumu community in Dekina Local Government Area on August 10.

In response, forces from the 21 Battalion, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Lugard, the Nigeria Police, local vigilantes, and hybrid forces initiated a search-and-rescue operation. The security teams engaged the suspected kidnappers in a fierce gun battle, compelling them to abandon the victims and escape into the surrounding area. Unfortunately, one member of the hybrid forces lost their life during the confrontation, while a police officer sustained injuries.

The rescued victims, comprising six men, six women, and four children, have been turned over to the Nigeria Police, Ajaokuta Division, for further handling. Efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing kidnappers.
