2027: I don’t need to be campaign DG to deliver Rivers, FCT for Tinubu – Wike

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has rejected claims that he is seeking to become the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections. Wike emphasized in a statement on Monday that he does not require any position in the President’s campaign structure to aid in Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, issued the statement in response to reports suggesting Wike was being considered or lobbying for the campaign DG role. Wike firmly stated that he had not engaged in discussions regarding the leadership or membership of the Presidential Campaign Council with anyone.

He highlighted that he does not need to be the DG or a member of the Presidential Campaign Council of President Tinubu’s party to contribute effectively to his re-election campaign, particularly in Rivers State and the FCT. Wike reiterated his unwavering commitment to Tinubu’s re-election, expressing his priority to continue supporting the President’s agenda.

He also disclosed that he is currently abroad, taking a break after over 30 days of project commissioning, new project launches, and ongoing inspections. Upon his return, Wike pledged to resume delivering on the FCT mandate in line with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda while strengthening Tinubu’s electoral support in Rivers State and the FCT.

Wike clarified that his support for President Tinubu is independent of any campaign council position and his focus remains on ensuring the President’s electoral victory in the targeted regions.
