A powerful earthquake struck Colombia's coastal region early Saturday, killing at least 20 people and injuring hundreds more, authorities said. The 6.6-magnitude quake hit near the town of Turbaco, about 30 miles south of Cartagena, a major tourist destination, at 5:32 a.m. local time, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. President Iván Duque said on Twitter that "all of the country's emergency response agencies" were responding to the quake. Emergency services were working to rescue people trapped under debris from collapsed buildings, and authorities were assessing damage in several coastal towns. Duque tweeted that he was traveling to the area to oversee relief efforts. At least 20 people were killed and more than 400 injured, according to Colombia's disaster relief agency. Rescue teams were searching for survivors under the rubble of collapsed buildings in the towns of Turbaco and Los Pomposo, near Cartagena. Many people were trapped inside buildings that had partially or totally collapsed, authorities said. The earthquake caused widespread damage in several coastal towns, including Turbaco, Los Pomposo and Cartagena. The quake was also felt in Panama and Venezuela, according to the USGS.
