147 structures to be affected by Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway service lane – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has announced that approximately 147 structures in Lagos State are anticipated to be impacted by the construction of the service lane for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. Out of these, just five will be demolished entirely. The President revealed this during a meeting with stakeholders, which coincided with the inauguration of repairs on the Eko and Marine bridges, as well as restoration work on a flood-damaged section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Accompanied by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Tinubu clarified that the remaining 142 structures will experience only minor effects from the project. He assured property owners of the affected structures that the Federal Government would provide compensation when due, requesting patience throughout the process. "The compensation will be given to you at the right time," Tinubu stated.

The stakeholder engagement aimed to enhance public comprehension and cooperation, emphasizing that community support was crucial for the successful completion of the infrastructure projects. Tinubu praised the Eko Bridge as one of the significant bridges constructed in the post-independence era, and highlighted the Marine Bridge's vital role as a principal access point to the Lagos seaports.

He commended Minister of Works, David Umahi, for his efforts in expanding and rehabilitating Nigeria's road infrastructure. The President urged Lagos residents and other stakeholders to cooperate with the government on initiatives to enhance transportation and bolster infrastructure across the state. "For all of us to enjoy the full benefit of infrastructure, we have to make room for it, so that it becomes an asset that will last beyond our lifetimes," Tinubu noted.

The 147 affected structures were disclosed during the meeting by a representative of the AEC consortium handling the project. Tinubu reiterated the Federal Government's openness to constructive criticism but appealed to stakeholders to support well-planned and executed projects for the public's benefit. "It is my honor to launch all these projects for the benefit of humanity, for our citizens in Lagos, and for all our people across the country," he concluded.
