10 injured as explosions rock Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia amid Russian ballistic missile attacks across Ukraine

Ten individuals sustained injuries overnight on August 11 as Russia executed a ballistic missile assault on urban centers throughout Ukraine, according to initial reports from the Kyiv Independent. One casualty was reported in Kyiv, while the remaining nine were wounded in Zaporizhzhia. Both cities received simultaneous attacks from Russia.

Eyewitnesses recounted the sound of explosions occurring around 12:30 a.m. on August 11. Asami Terajima, a Kyiv Independent reporter based in Zaporizhzhia, reported hearing around ten explosions, with one particularly powerful blast described as resembling an earthquake. This severe blast was likely caused by a guided aerial bomb, according to Terajima.

Zaporizhzhia Oblast Governor Ivan Fedorov confirmed that Russian forces had targeted the regional center with ballistic missiles and guided aerial bombs, resulting in damage to homes, buildings, fires, and power outages. Terajima emphasized the dire shortage of air defense capabilities, especially in frontline regions like Zaporizhzhia.

In Kyiv, Kyiv Independent reporters heard multiple loud explosions, some near the city center. Mayor Vitali Klitschko warned residents that the capital was under attack and urged them to take shelter, dispatching medics to a site in the Shevchenkivskyi district where a warehouse had been damaged. Russia has significantly intensified its missile campaign against Ukraine throughout the summer of 2026, exacerbating the country's critical air defense shortage, which leaves cities vulnerable to ballistic missile attacks.
