Why Tinubu should immediately halt state policing policy – Emejuru

Public affairs analyst and ADP chieftain Chris Emejuru has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to halt the state policing policy immediately. In a statement on Sunday, Emejuru argued that the Tinubu administration should instead prioritize addressing the poverty that plagues the majority of Nigerians. The State Police Bill, which has already been passed and sent to the 36 state Houses of Assembly, is currently undergoing constitutional amendments in both chambers of the National Assembly.

Emejuru cautioned that "No amount of bullets, weapons, or tanks will put food in the stomach of a desperate youth." He emphasized that ending poverty should be the primary focus of the Tinubu administration, stating, "Once you address poverty in the country, insecurity will reduce." Emejuru cautioned that the state policing issue requires caution, as it has potential but may not resolve all security challenges in Nigeria.

He stressed the need for safeguards to prevent corrupt forces from exploiting the reform, which is still in the process of being established as constitutional law. Emejuru reiterated that tackling poverty should be the primary issue Nigeria needs to address.
