Warisan, STAR dan KDM bincang PRU16

Warisan, STAR and KDM have been discussing the possibility of forming an alliance for the 2016 general election, according to sources. Each of the three parties is led by Shafie Apdal, Jeffrey Kitingan, and Priscella Peter respectively. The media conference in Sandakan, Sabah, revealed that the presidents of the three parties were holding discussions, but no agreements had been reached at that point. Shafie Apdal stated that they were investigating the situation and had not yet decided what needed to be done.

Warisan currently holds three parliamentary seats in Sabah, while STAR and KDM, led by Jeffrey Kitingan and Priscella Peter respectively, each hold one seat. Barisan Nasional has seven parliamentary seats in Sabah, followed by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and Pakatan Harapan with five seats each, while Perikatan Nasional has one seat. Despite a lackluster performance in the 2022 general election, Warisan won 25 seats in the Sabah state election in November 2021. STAR won two seats, while KDM won one.

Shafie Apdal noted that there were common points between the three parties due to the strong voting power of Sabah in the Dewan Rakyat. He emphasized that the Sabah-based parties needed to do everything possible to ensure that 25 parliamentary seats in the state were controlled by the local party. With over 160 parliamentary seats allocated to the mainland, he questioned the need for mainland parties to hold parliamentary seats in Sabah.

Shafie also added that Warisan would ensure that any alliance in PRU16 protects the rights and interests of Sabah.
