Warisan in talks with STAR, KDM on GE16 pact

Warisan, along with STAR and KDM, are currently exploring the possibility of forming a pact for the upcoming general election (GE16) in Sabah. The Warisan president, Shafie Apdal, confirmed that discussions involving the leaders of all three parties have been ongoing, but no agreement has been finalized yet. The current parliamentary distribution in Sabah is as follows: Warisan holds three seats, STAR and KDM each hold one, while the Barisan Nasional party holds seven seats.

The other parties in Sabah are Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and Pakatan Harapan, each with five seats, and Perikatan Nasional with one seat.

Despite the party's lower performance in the 2022 general election, Warisan managed to secure 25 seats during the Sabah state election in November. STAR won two seats, while KDM won one. Shafie emphasized the importance of Sabah-based parties ensuring that the state's 25 parliamentary seats are held by local parties. He questioned the necessity of peninsula-based parties holding parliamentary seats in Sabah, given that there are over 160 parliamentary seats allocated to the Peninsular Malaysia.

Shafie also stated that Warisan will strive to protect Sabah's rights and interests in any GE16 pact.
