Warisan keeps Sabah pact talks open, pushes for local parties to contest 25 seats

Warisan, a political party in Malaysia, continues discussions on potential political cooperation with Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) and Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM), but maintains that it is crucial for local parties in Sabah to contest 25 parliamentary seats in the upcoming general election. Warisan's president, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, emphasized that strengthening Sabah's position and ensuring its voice in Parliament is their top priority.

Discussions on possible political cooperation are ongoing, but the party has not yet agreed on any terms. Shafie Apdal also mentioned the Borneo Bloc as one of the approaches being considered to advance Sabah's interests. He stated that the party is actively working to ensure Sabah's rights and voices are heard. The Borneo Bloc remains a key focus for Warisan, as it aims to represent the diverse communities in Sabah, including the Chinese, Kadazan-Dusun, Bajau, Bugis, Murut and Tidong communities.

Shafie Apdal clarified that the issue is not solely about the number of parliamentary seats, as Sabah has fewer seats compared to the peninsula. Instead, the party seeks to ensure that Sabah receives meaningful representation at the federal level. He argued that Sabah's resources and economic potential should be given greater recognition, asserting that empowering the state will ultimately benefit Malaysia as a whole.
