Uttarakhand cop hands pen to mentally ill man missing for 10 years, one word reunites family

A mentally ill elderly man who had gone missing for nearly a decade in Uttar Pradesh was finally reunited with his family in Uttarakhand thanks to the efforts of a police officer named Vinod Fartyal. Fartyal, who was recently appointed as the officer in charge of the Majkhali police outpost in Almora district, spotted the man wandering around the area and brought him to the outpost.

Despite numerous attempts to establish contact, the officer realized that the man was unable to provide any clear information about his identity or background. In a breakthrough, Fartyal handed the man a diary and a pen, instructing him to write anything he could remember. To his surprise, the man wrote only one word: "Rajepur".

Fartyal took this as a clue and immediately contacted the Rajepur police station in Uttar Pradesh. The Rajepur police shared the man's photograph and provided additional details, which led to the identification of the man as Shyam Singh. After four days of intensive inquiry, the police confirmed that the man was Shyam Singh and traced his family in Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh.

Shyam Singh's relatives, who had been searching for him for ten years due to his struggle with mental illness, traveled to the Majkhali police outpost to reunite with their son. The family expressed their gratitude, sharing a video of Shyam Singh that went viral, garnering widespread praise and admiration. The story highlights the remarkable impact of a simple act - a single word written in a police diary - in bringing a long-lost family back together.
