Unlicensed driver allegedly reverses into Singapore petrol station attendant, killing him

A 69-year-old petrol station worker lost his life after being struck by a vehicle driven in reverse by an unlicensed 22-year-old male, according to CNA. The collision occurred at around 3:55am Thursday at a petrol station on Upper Changi Road North. The victim, preparing to refuel his vehicle, sustained fatal injuries when the driver's open door hit him as he pumped fuel.

The driver, who was later found to be driving an uninsured and deregistered vehicle, fled the scene with a female passenger. Both suspects were apprehended by police using ground inquiries, footage from police cameras, and CCTV. The 22-year-old driver faces multiple charges, including causing death by driving without due care and attention, driving under the influence of drugs, and driving without a valid license.

The female passenger was arrested on suspicion of drug consumption and assisting in traffic-related offenses. The police seized the vehicle, identifying it as deregistered, and it will be charged for the same offenses. Authorities emphasized the dangers of deregistered vehicles, which not only lack insurance but also may not adhere to safety standards, especially when operated by unlicensed or underage drivers. Police urged the public to report any suspicions of such vehicles or unlicensed drivers.
