Ty Gibbs holds on to win NASCAR Cup Series race at Iowa Speedway

Newton, Iowa (AP) — Ty Gibbs secured a victory in the NASCAR Cup Series race at Iowa Speedway on Sunday, utilizing a late pit strategy to outlast teammate Christopher Bell in the last 20 laps. The 23-year-old grandson of former NFL coach and NASCAR team owner Joe Gibbs claimed his second win of the season and his career, finishing 0.253 seconds ahead of his JGR teammate.

Gibbs and Bell had both pitted with 60 laps remaining, but Gibbs opted for a two-tire change while Bell went with four, allowing Gibbs to regain the lead. When Ross Chastain pit on Lap 330, Gibbs took the top position and fought off Bell's late charge. Gibbs had previously won on April 12 at Bristol and entered the race ranked fourth in the season standings, moving up to second place, 103 points behind Denny Hamlin.

Pole-sitter Ryan Blaney, who won the inaugural 2024 Cup Series race at the 0.875-mile oval, finished third after leading the most laps, 129. Josh Berry secured fourth place, his best finish of the season and third top-10 finish.
