Two arrested for bid to extort money from agricultural officer in Asifabad

Two individuals, identified as journalists, were arrested by Asifabad police for allegedly attempting to extort money from an agricultural officer, according to police reports. The accused, B. Devender and D. Suresh, natives of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district and residents of L.B. Nagar in Hyderabad, were apprehended on Friday evening.

The arrests followed a complaint lodged by the officer, who claimed he was pressured by the first accused to cancel a trader's licence in a personal dispute. However, an inquiry by concerned officials found the licence to be valid and the required documents in order. The second accused allegedly demanded ₹20 lakh from the officer, receiving ₹1.30 lakh after allegedly threatening him through social media posts, the police said. Further investigation is ongoing.
