Turkana, IRC sign new MoU to strengthen inclusive service delivery

Turkana County and the International Rescue Committee (IRC) have formalized their partnership through a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement, signed by Deputy Governor Dr. John Erus and IRC's Turkana Field Office head Joshua Rutto, aims to enhance collaboration across various sectors. The MoU covers health, nutrition, WASH, economic recovery and development, protection, advocacy, systems strengthening, research, disaster management, and emergency response.

IRC's presence in Turkana dates back to the early 1990s, when the organization began expanding its efforts in the region. Dr. Erus highlighted the IRC's significant contributions to healthcare systems and the welfare of refugees in Kakuma. The deputy governor noted that the MoU will bolster capacity for inclusive health services, including surveillance and intervention of animal and human diseases in the border regions of Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia-South Sudan.

Ruto emphasized that the MoU aligns with Turkana County's development plans, such as the current and future Integrated Development Plans (CIDP), KISEDP, and the Shirika plan. IRC will participate in sector working groups to improve service delivery under the county's coordination framework. The new agreement follows the county's preparations for the 2nd annual NGOs and Development Partners Week, where the MoU will be unveiled.

Key stakeholders, including Deputy Director Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Mike Aupe and Health, UHC, and Partnerships officer Sylvester Ebei Eoko, were present during the signing.
