This shift in focus comes after Iran made new demands to reopen the vital waterway.

If the US can maintain surveillance over Iran's nuclear program and traffic is restored in the Strait, sources suggest Trump would likely extend the ceasefire indefinitely. However, Trump's plan faces opposition from his close ally, Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently rejected a Gaza peace plan endorsed by Hamas, stating that Israeli forces would not withdraw from the territory until Hamas is fully disarmed.

This stance puts Netanyahu at odds with a key element of Trump's proposal, which envisions a phased Israeli withdrawal linked to the demilitarization of Gaza.
