Iran nears agreement with Oman on Strait of Hormuz shipping lanes

Negotiations between Iran and Oman on establishing new shipping routes within the Strait of Hormuz are reportedly nearing completion, according to Iran's latest announcement. However, the waterway remains under closure, pending action from the United States. Iran officially declared on Sunday that the talks with Oman have reached their final stages, yet stressed that the strait will not be reopened until US conditions are met.

A US official's remarks to Reuters on Friday suggested that an agreement between Iran and Oman is impending, potentially paving the way for the reopening of the strategic waterway. The Strait of Hormuz typically accommodated approximately 20% of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas shipments prior to Iran's closure of it in reaction to US and Israeli strikes.

As of now, Iran has not disclosed the specific conditions it is seeking from the United States as a pre-requisite for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping.
