Toronto's Max Scherzer moves into 10th place all-time in strikeouts, passing Walter Johnson

Toronto Blue Jays right-handed pitcher Max Scherzer has secured the 10th spot on the all-time strikeouts list, surpassing Hall of Famer Walter Johnson. This milestone came during the Blue Jays' 7-5 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night. Scherzer, who pitched his ninth start of the season, amassed a total of 3,516 career strikeouts, just one more than Johnson.

He currently ranks second among active pitchers in strikeouts, trailing only Justin Verlander's 3,554. Scherzer's strikeout of Kyle Schwarber in the sixth inning propelled him past Johnson. However, he was unable to maintain his momentum as he allowed consecutive home runs to Trea Turner and Bryce Harper, which tied the game at 2 and ended his performance.

Scherzer's pitching was otherwise stellar, with five scoreless innings, only three hits, and four strikeouts before the Turner and Harper home runs. He lowered his ERA to 7.25. Scherzer was selected 11th overall in the 2006 draft by Arizona. Throughout his career, he has won three Cy Young Awards, made eight All-Star teams, and won two World Series titles.
