Three Rohingya men held in Kemaman over alleged sexual offence involving disabled woman

Police have detained three Rohingya men between the ages of 19 and 28 in Kemaman, Malaysia, according to the Kemaman district police chief, Superintendent Mohd Razi Rosli. The arrests followed a report of an alleged sexual offence involving a 23-year-old disabled woman. The three suspects, all of Rohingya descent, were apprehended after receiving the report from a woman.

They are currently being held for a five-day remand period, pending further investigation. Police obtained a five-day remand order until August 12 to continue their investigation under Section 376 of the Penal Code. Superintendent Mohd Razi Rosli urged the public to refrain from making baseless speculations and cautioned against contributing to panic or unrest on social media.

He also emphasized the importance of giving the victim, a 23-year-old disabled woman, sufficient time and space before the investigation is concluded. The public is advised not to take hasty action against Rohingya individuals, as it could indirectly lead them into criminal activities. The incident sparked a gathering of concerned citizens outside flats in Kampung Enjin Gergaji, Chukai, on the previous day.
