This 125-year-old historic house is on sale for just $1. But there's a catch

The New York Post reports that a historic home in Bath, Maine, once owned by a prominent shipbuilder, is up for sale for just $1. However, the catch is that buyers must move the entire house to a new location by November 20, 2027, or face demolition. The property, known as the Deering House, dates back to around 1900 and is closely tied to Bath's shipbuilding history.

It was built by Gardiner G. Deering, who helped establish Bath as a major shipbuilding center in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Bath Iron Works, the company offering the property, plans to clear the site for a new facility but is hoping someone will take on the challenge of moving the historic home. The buyer will be responsible for all relocation costs, potentially running into hundreds of thousands of dollars.

While moving an old house is possible, it is far from simple or cheap, as demonstrated by a similar project in Augusta, Maine, in May that cost over $500,000.
