Bhopal Municipal Corporation Issues 228 Fresh Notices In Crackdown On Illegal Commercial Activity

Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued 228 new notices in a crackdown on illegal commercial activity operating from residential properties. This citywide survey began on Sunday and targeted all six Assembly constituencies, issuing notices in 21 zones. The first day of the drive resulted in 228 notices being served across 21 zones.

Property owners have been given seven days to submit building permission documents, and if they fail to do so, or if commercial activity continues, sealing proceedings will commence 10 days after the notice. The previous round of notices issued by BMC remains valid, and over 1,250 notices have already been issued, bringing the total to over 1,450.

Narela constituency received the highest number of notices, followed by Govindpura and Huzur. The BMC has deployed 96 officials and employees for the survey, working in teams at the Assembly constituency level. Officials are conducting spot checks for commercial activities in residential areas and verifying property tax records against actual usage.

The survey will also address unauthorized construction and permanent structures near lakes and green belts. In response to the renewed action, the Joint Residents Struggle Committee organized a torch rally, while Number 10 Market Traders Federation held an umbrella rally, demanding a master plan, mixed land-use provisions, or the adoption of the 2022 Gujarat model.

When asked about the situation, municipal commissioner Sanskriti Jain stated that the previously issued notices would remain effective, and further action will be taken after the seven-day deadline for submitting documents.
