In the bottom of the 5th inning, Bae Ji-hwan, who started as the 6th batter and played second base, got his first at-bat with two outs and no runners on. In a three-ball, one-strike game, Bae Ji-hwan tried to bunt a fastball of 96 miles per hour (154 km/h) from Pirates' starter Quinn Priester, but it was evaluated as a bunt that was a bit strong. The ball went straight to the third baseman, and the third baseman made an error in the process of trying to catch the ball, allowing Bae Ji-hwan to reach base safely. Bae Ji-hwan, who had not played in the major leagues since May 10, recorded a batting average of 0.333 with one bunt single in one at-bat. The Brewers lost 1-4 to the Pirates on this day.
