‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ keeps record pace, ‘The Odyssey’ sets new high for Nolan

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" maintained its impressive momentum in theaters, raking in $144.5 million during its second weekend domestically, per studio estimates. The Sony-Marvel film has now amassed $1.67 billion worldwide in just ten days, positioning it as one of the biggest blockbusters ever. Domestically, no movie has ever surpassed such a fast accumulation of revenue.

In the U.S. and Canada, "Brand New Day" has generated $655.1 million to date. Overseas, it has already exceeded the $1 billion mark. Within just seven days of release, "Brand New Day" became the top-grossing movie of the year, surpassing "Toy Story 5" ($1.07 billion worldwide) in just a week. No Sony film has ever achieved $100 million in its second weekend.

It came close to breaking the record set by "The Force Awakens" ($149.2 million in 2015). Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" also crossed the $1 billion mark. In its fourth weekend, the Universal Pictures release added $31.5 million domestically, bringing its global total to $1.1 billion. "The Odyssey" is Christopher Nolan's first movie to reach that milestone since 2012's "The Dark Knight Rises" and is now the director's biggest box office hit ever, not accounting for inflation, surpassing both "The Dark Knight Rises" ($1.08 billion) and 2009's "The Dark Knight" ($1 billion).

Nolan's "Oppenheimer" ($975 million) fell just short of the milestone. IMAX played a crucial role in this success, accounting for $147.3 million domestically on the studio's large-format screens, making "The Odyssey" the highest-grossing IMAX domestic release of all time.
