Six injured as heavy rains cause wall to collapse on church in Kitale

Six individuals sustained injuries when a perimeter wall crumbled onto the Rama Messianic Fellowship church in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, on August 8, 2026. The congregation was in the midst of worship services when the incident unfolded. According to police reports, the wall belonged to Sper Break Hotel and fell onto the church grounds, causing injuries to six worshippers.

These individuals were promptly transported to Dr Michuki Hospital, where five of them were treated and released in stable condition. One person remained hospitalized for additional medical attention. The collapse also inflicted damage on church property, with an estimated total value of Sh862,500. This included 25 plastic chairs worth Sh37,500, a tent costing Sh800,000, and electrical wiring valued at Sh25,000.

Police were alerted to the incident around 4:18pm on the same day. Concurrently, a separate incident occurred in Nairobi's Lower Savanna, where a fire erupted at a rental house, resulting in major burns for three individuals, including a three-year-old child. The blaze was sparked by a domestic dispute between a man and his wife, leading to the house being set ablaze.

Rescuers managed to evacuate the occupants and swiftly transported them to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital for critical care. The fire was quickly extinguished by first responders, but the victims are awaiting further treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital. Police are actively investigating both incidents to determine the exact causes.
