Sabalenka and Norrie exit Canadian Open in last 16

World number one Aryna Sabalenka suffered an unexpected loss in the Canadian Open, being defeated by Russia's Ekaterina Alexandrova in a hard-fought three-set match. The 22-year-old Belarusian rallied from a set down to force a decisive set, but a critical double fault on serve saw Alexandrova clinch her victory. This marks a challenging summer for Sabalenka, who had already been eliminated in the quarter-finals and last 16 of the French Open and Wimbledon, respectively.

Alexandrova, who defeated American eighth seed Amanda Anisimova 6-2 6-4, will advance to the semi-finals where she will face Ukraine's Elina Svitolina.

Meanwhile, Britain's second-ranked tennis player Cameron Norrie exited the tournament in the last 16. The 24-year-old from the UK suffered a tough defeat against France's Arthur Fils, with the Frenchman taking advantage of two set-point opportunities at the start of the second set. Norrie managed to save three match points in the second set to force a tie-break, but Fils broke his serve to win the match in 1 hour and 43 minutes.

Fils will face Spanish teenager Rafael Jodar in the quarter-finals, while Brandon Nakashima and Luciano Darderi also secured their spots in the next round with grueling three-set victories over Arthur Rinderknech and Nuno Borges, respectively.
