Rahul Navin’s tenure as ED Director extended by 1 year

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) Director's term has been extended by one year, as announced in a government order issued on Saturday. Rahul Navin, a 59-year-old 1993-batch Indian Revenue Service officer from the Income Tax cadre, has been leading the federal anti-money laundering agency since August 14, 2024. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the extension, which will keep him in the role until August 13, 2027, including an extension beyond his scheduled retirement date of July 31, 2027, or until otherwise directed.

During his tenure, the ED has pursued numerous high-profile investigations, targeting various online gaming companies and real estate entities accused of fraud. In September 2023, Navin assumed the role of acting director. Prior to his appointment, he served as Special Director-Chief Vigilance Officer at the ED headquarters. Navin holds a B Tech and M Tech degree from IIT-Kanpur and an MBA from Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne.

He has authored several publications on international taxation and transfer pricing related to direct taxation. The ED enforces the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act (FEOA), as well as exercises civil powers under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
