Police to seek custody of two accused in medico’s death case

East Godavari Superintendent of Police D. Narasimha Kishore announced on Sunday that the police would seek custody of Suravarupu Daswanth and Andrew Joseph Edwards in the investigation of Dr. Karake Priyanka's death. Daswanth, who was driving the car that hit Priyanka, had an engineering degree and was preparing to travel abroad, while Edwards operated lorries on hire.

The police remanded the two accused in judicial custody on August 7 for allegedly hitting Priyanka with the car in a drunken state at a mall in Rajamahendravaram on August 3. According to the G.S.L. Hospital management, Priyanka was declared brain dead and died on August 7 at a private hospital in Secunderabad. As per the preliminary probe, Priyanka and the accused were not acquainted with each other.

Home Minister V. Anitha expressed grief over Priyanka's death and assured the government's support to her family during the difficult time. She condemned the incident and stated that strict action would be taken against all responsible parties.
