Pemandu SUV rempuh pintu kaca KKIA lupa letak gear ‘P’

Last Friday, a 66-year-old woman accidentally drove an SUV through a window of the KKIA Terminal 1 parking lot. PETALING JAYA: The incident involving a sport utility vehicle (SUV) ramming a KKIA Terminal 1 parking lot window on Friday was caused by a driver who initially forgot to put the vehicle in 'P' (park) mode before panic-strickenly pressing the accelerator pedal.

Kota Kinabalu Police Chief Shahrudin Mat Husain said the 4.55 pm incident occurred after the woman stopped at the parking lot to pick up her son. When it was time to switch drivers, she believed she forgot to engage the 'P' gear, causing the vehicle to slowly move forward. "The driver then reportedly panicked and inadvertently pressed the accelerator, causing the SUV to speed forward and collide with another vehicle before it was pushed through the KKIA Terminal 1 parking lot window and a supporting structure," he said in a statement, according to Bernama.

Shahrudin said the driver exited the vehicle before the collision, but sustained minor facial injuries from the glass impact. She was taken to Queen Elizabeth I Hospital for further treatment. The case is being investigated under Section 10 of the Road Traffic Ordinance 1959, under the Road Transport Act 1987.
