Pakatan hails BN openness, Fahmi says Melaka seat talks offer chance for stability

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9 — Pakatan Harapan (PH) is pleased with Barisan Nasional (BN) being open about the allocation of seats for the upcoming Melaka state election. Communications director Fahmi Fadzil stated that this openness should also be considered for the long-term stability of Melaka, both at the state and national levels. According to Fahmi, the chairman of Keadilan Melaka, Adam Adli, has been in direct communication with Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusof regarding the distribution of seats.

Currently, BN holds 21 seats in Melaka while PH holds five. Fahmi highlighted that this information presents a realistic basis for discussions. As Communications Minister, he added that various matters related to the allocation of state seats in Melaka could be addressed at both the state and federal levels. Earlier this week, BN chairman Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expressed willingness to negotiate or even exchange seats for the Melaka state election, provided the process is conducted honestly and does not compromise the seat count for each party.

Zahid emphasized that the seats earned by any party must be respected and not simply transferred to political allies.
