Pakatan hails BN openness, Fahmi says Melaka seat talks offer chance for stability

Pakatan Harapan (PH) has welcomed the openness shown by Barisan Nasional (BN) concerning the allocation of seats for the upcoming Melaka state election, deeming it an opportunity that must be considered. This openness should also be embraced for the long-term stability of Melaka's political landscape, emphasizing its significance to the entire nation.

According to PH Communications Director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, this approach presents a valuable opportunity to thoroughly examine the issue, given that BN currently holds 21 seats in Melaka, while PH possesses five. Fahmi, who also serves as the Communications Minister, elaborated on this matter during a report following the inauguration of the Gotong-royong Mega Perangi Aedes programme in Lembah Pantai, Melaka.

He posited that numerous aspects could be addressed at both the state and federal levels with regards to the distribution of state seats in Melaka. Earlier, BN Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed the coalition's willingness to engage in negotiations regarding seat distribution or even their exchange for the Melaka state election, provided that the process is conducted honestly and sincerely without undermining the seat count for each party.

Zahid further stressed that the fundamental principle of these discussions is to respect the seats won by any party and refrain from simply transferring them to political allies.
