NIS sends passport intervention team to UK

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has dispatched a specialized Passport Intervention Team to the United Kingdom, aiming to facilitate and simplify passport applications for Nigerians living abroad. This initiative, spearheaded by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is part of ongoing efforts to enhance passport services for Nigerians residing in the diaspora.

Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, has been tasked with deploying the team from the NIS headquarters in Abuja to the UK. The team is expected to arrive in the United Kingdom on August 10, 2026, and will collaborate with the Nigerian High Commission to streamline the processing and issuance of pending, new, and renewal passport applications.

The intervention will cover designated cities across the UK, allowing eligible applicants to access passport enrolment and processing services in various locations. The intervention is open to Nigerians with pending applications, new applicants, and holders of passports expiring within a year who wish to renew. Applicants must present completed application forms and proof of payment during enrolment.

The NIS has emphasized the importance of monitoring official communication channels of the Nigerian High Commission for detailed schedules, including designated cities, dates, venues, and enrolment times. Applicants are advised not to proceed to any location until such schedules are officially announced. The service has also confirmed that its digital passport application channels, including the Contactless Passport Application System, will remain operational during the intervention exercise.
