NFF Refutes Reports Demanding Infantino’s Resignation

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has refuted social media reports suggesting that it has demanded FIFA President Gianni Infantino to resign from his position. The NFF clarified through its official X account that the allegation is a false statement. The federation emphasized that they have never asked or are currently asking for Infantino to step down as FIFA President.

This rebuttal comes as there is increased global scrutiny on Infantino's leadership, particularly following the controversy surrounding a proposal that was later abandoned. The proposal involved selling commercial rights associated with the World Cup. Infantino had proposed the establishment of FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), which would have allowed private investors to purchase shares in FIFA tournaments and other major FIFA events. This would have given them a role in the management of these competitions.

Infantino had secretly pushed forward with this plan without receiving the consent of a majority of FIFA's member associations. Additionally, he had prepared to offer each member association up to $40 million in exchange for their support of the proposal, prior to the September 19 deadline. The hope was that this arrangement would eventually be implemented.
