Mumbai’s newest sea-viewing deck in Bandra will sit atop a sewage treatment plant

Mumbai's newest sea-viewing deck, slated for completion by July 2027, will rise atop a sewage treatment plant in Bandra. Situated at the southern edge of Bandra adjacent to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, the viewing deck is part of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's extensive wastewater treatment facility project. Alongside the deck, the project will generate 2.6 acres of landscaped public open space, featuring gardens, walkways, seating areas, and outdoor gym equipment.

This addition is a significant step in Mumbai's crowded urban landscape. Presently, the city boasts only two sea-viewing decks, located in Dadar and Girgaon. The proposed space will be nearly double the size of an average football field. The viewing deck, knowledge centre, and landscaped public space are projected to cost Rs 67 crore.

This project is part of seven sewage treatment plants the BMC is constructing under a Rs 30,000-crore WWTF project initiated in 2023. These facilities will collectively treat and recycle 2,400 million litres of wastewater daily, which is approximately 55% of Mumbai's daily water requirement.
