Man Utd boss Carrick being 'careful' with Mount as Man Utd draw with PSG

Manchester United boss Michael Carrick expressed caution while addressing Mason Mount's participation in the team's friendly match against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in Gothenburg, Sweden. Mount, who joined United from Chelsea in 2023, had been dealing with recurring injury issues since his move to Old Trafford. The 27-year-old England midfielder was involved in an injury scare during the 1-1 friendly draw, lasting less than 20 minutes after starting.

Mount appeared to sustain a foot injury during the game and was replaced by Tyler Fletcher. Carrick stated that his primary concern was Mount's well-being and decided to exercise caution, adding that they had been fortunate in avoiding injuries thus far and wanted to be cautious. Video footage showed Mount walking to the United bus without any visible knee support or protective boot.

United, competing in the 2026/27 Champions League alongside PSG, who finished third in the Premier League, trailed 1-0 during Mount's injury. Bryan Mbeumo equalized for United in the 32nd minute, with Amad Diallo playing him in following a goal by Ibrahim Mbaye in the second minute. PSG's goalkeeper, Matvey Safonov, escaped punishment for clashing with Joshua Zirkzee outside his area, potentially facing sanctions in a competitive match.

New signings Bruno Fernandes and Youri Tielemans showed encouraging form, with Fernandes linking up well with Tielemans. Carrick acknowledged the importance of problem-solving for the players and expressed happiness with the overall team performance, despite failing to score more goals.
