Indonesia's PSSI Backs Gianni Infantino for FIFA President Reelection

The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) has endorsed Gianni Infantino's campaign for re-election as FIFA president, attributing their support to his impactful role in advancing the sport within the country. PSSI President Erick Thohir highlighted Infantino's transformative leadership, describing FIFA under his guidance as "more than a global governing body."

Thohir emphasized Infantino's dedication to unity among football communities worldwide, advancements in development, and empowerment of member associations. He particularly praised FIFA's financial contribution of US$5.4 million through the FIFA Forward program for the construction of Indonesia's National Training Center in Nusantara.

Additionally, Thohir noted the designation of Jakarta as FIFA's operational base for Southeast and East Asia, benefiting 21 member associations. The statement came as reports suggested Infantino may pursue another term following his current decade-long tenure, set to be decided on March 18 at the FIFA Congress in Morocco. Despite facing opposition from some member associations over controversial proposals like the withdrawal of a private subsidiary for managing FIFA's commercial rights, Infantino maintains strong backing from numerous countries, including all 54 members of the Confederation of African Football and several Middle Eastern nations.
