Makkah defense pact signals regional alliance shift amid global changes

The signing of the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement by Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan marks a significant shift in regional alliances, signaling a change in the geopolitical landscape. Professor Mishaal Al-Wuael, a media expert at King Saud University, attributes this development to the evolving dynamics of international relations.

Al-Wuael emphasizes that Turkey and Pakistan possess substantial political and military influence, while Saudi Arabia holds a pivotal position due to its profound political and economic sway, as well as its influential standing in the region and globally. He asserts that the agreement signifies a period of realignment of alliances and blocs in response to the rapid changes occurring on the international stage.

He further highlights that Saudi Arabia's approach to diplomacy provides a platform for dialogue and conflict resolution through political means. The agreement was officially signed during a summit held in Makkah, at the behest of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
