LAWMA trains children on waste management, recycling

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has launched its annual Summer School for 2026, focusing on educating children aged seven to fifteen on waste management, recycling and environmental stewardship. The four-week program, themed 'Young Eco-Heroes: Protecting Our Environment', was inaugurated by LAWMA's Managing Director, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, at the LAWMA headquarters in Ijora.

Gbadegesin emphasized the importance of children and young people as critical stakeholders in achieving a cleaner, more sustainable Lagos, stating that continuous education and positive behavioral change are essential for lasting environmental transformation. The summer school aims to provide practical lessons in waste segregation, recycling, environmental sanitation, climate change, resource conservation, leadership, teamwork and sustainable living.

Participating students will engage in classroom learning, practical demonstrations, creative recycling sessions, educational excursions and hands-on projects. The program will conclude on August 26, 2026, with a comprehensive assessment of participants' understanding of waste management concepts. Outstanding students will be recognized for their performance.

LAWMA's initiative aims to nurture environmentally conscious children who can serve as ambassadors for environmental sustainability within their homes, schools and communities, contributing to a cleaner, greener and more sustainable Lagos.
