Lands Minister honours former Environment, Science and Technology Minister

Ghana's Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, honored the late Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, the former Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, in a special prayer session on Friday. The event brought together Ministers of State, the National Chief Imam, family members, and dignitaries.

Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah praised Dr. Muhammed as a patriotic lawmaker and dedicated public servant, highlighting his leadership, humility, and commitment to national development. He recalled that the late minister had served in various roles before becoming Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, including Deputy Minister for Information and Media Relations, Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Member of Parliament for Nanton, and Member of Parliament for Tamale Central.

Despite holding the ministerial position for only six months, Dr. Muhammed provided visionary leadership during a critical period when Ghana faced significant environmental and developmental challenges. He emphasized the importance of environmental sustainability, scientific research, and technological innovation for national transformation.

Dr. Muhammed once stated, "Genesis 2:15 and Quran 2:30 both emphasize our duty to safeguard the environment. It is not just a policy matter but a collective responsibility," during his vetting.

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources recognized Dr. Muhammed's contributions to key initiatives, such as the repeal of Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2462, hosting the African Research Initiative for Scientific Excellence (ARISE) High-Level Meeting 2025, launching the Bi-annual Environment, Science and Technology (BEST) Forum, advancing the initial development of Ghana's Blue Economy Strategy, and launching the "One Child, One Tree" campaign.

Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah affirmed that the Ministry remains committed to building on Dr. Muhammed's foundation.

He urged Ghanaians to honor the late minister's memory by upholding his values of honest leadership, environmental responsibility, scientific progress, and steadfast service to the country. The Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology expressed condolences to Dr. Muhammed's bereaved family and prayed that Allah would forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
