Justices R V Ghuge, M C Tripathi recommended as Calcutta and Bombay High Court Chief Justices

The Supreme Court Collegium has proposed the promotion of Acting Chief Justice Ravindra V Ghuge of the Bombay High Court to become the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court. Additionally, Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi from the Allahabad High Court has been recommended to take on the role of the next Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.

Both men are expected to assume these positions following approval from the Central government and the issuance of official notifications. Justice Ghuge has been serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court for about thirteen years, having been appointed to this position in June of this year. Meanwhile, Justice Tripathi, if approved, will become the 50th Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court and represents the second Allahabad-born Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court in recent years, following Justice D K Upadhyaya.

Born on June 21, 1966, Justice Tripathi earned his law degree from Lucknow University in 1990 and became an advocate on January 11, 1992. He has been practicing in civil matters and has served as Additional Standing Counsel for Uttar Pradesh since October 2007. He has also represented various organizations, including the Kanpur Development Authority, Kanpur Nagar Nigam, and UP Food and Essential Commodities Corporation.

Justice Tripathi was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court on September 27, 2013, and became a permanent judge on April 10, 2015.
