Iran War: Iran Names Demands to US for Opening the Strait of Hormuz

Iran is putting forward demands to the United States regarding the reopening of the Hormuz Strait, dampening hopes for a swift reopening. Iranian leaders are asking for significant concessions from the US before the strait, crucial for international oil and gas trade, is released. Doubts are cast on whether the US administration will comply.

This is not the first time Iran has mentioned such conditions - they were previously laid out in a permanent agreement with the US, which would also involve Iran's nuclear program. Now, these demands are being made as prerequisites for an agreement aimed solely at reopening the Hormuz Strait. The National Security Council outlines six conditions for reopening the strait, which is currently blocked by US threats: an end to all US threats against Iran and its allies in the region, a permanent cessation of the war against Iran and its allies, lifting the naval blockade on Iranian ports, withdrawal of US forces from the region, full compensation for war damages, and the complete lifting of all sanctions against Iran.

The National Security Council coordinates foreign, defense, intelligence, and domestic security policies, serving as the highest decision-making body in the country. However, decisions are only effective after being confirmed by Supreme Leader Khamenei. This hardline council will also review the agreement between Iranian and Omani representatives.
